"These figures accurately depict the Greek hoplites who fought for both the Persians and Macedonians during the campaigns of Alexander the Great and his successors. While the mainstay of the Macedonian Army were the Phalangites (HaT #8043), regular hoplites such as these were necessary to protect their flanks. Many authorities also believe that Alexander's elite infantry guardsmen, the hypapists, were also equipped as hoplites, and the better armed figures in this set may be used for these troops as well." - Dan Peterson.
