China 1900
The Boxer Rebellion
Greetings, fellow enthusiasts. We're exploring a range of Boxer Rebellion era figures (approx 22 sets).
By the end of the nineteenth century, Qing China had suffered military defeats, internal upheaval and increasing interference by foreign powers. Foreign nations controlled treaty ports, concessions and railway interests, while Christian missionaries and their Chinese converts became highly visible symbols of outside influence. Economic hardship, natural disasters and resentment of these privileges helped produce a popular anti-foreign movement known as the Yihequan, or "Righteous and Harmonious Fists." Foreign observers called its members the Boxers.
During 1900 the violence spread toward Peking. The Qing government first attempted to restrain the Boxers, but elements of the Imperial court and army eventually supported them. Foreign sailors and marines defended the Legation Quarter, while an early relief attempt under Admiral Seymour was forced to retreat. Fighting followed at the Taku Forts and Tientsin before a larger international army advanced on Peking and relieved the besieged Legations in August. The resulting campaign involved Boxers, several different kinds of Chinese Imperial troops, and soldiers, sailors, marines, cavalry and artillery from the Eight-Nation Alliance.
About the proposed series
Our aim is to produce a coherent range that represents both sides of the conflict rather than concentrating on only one famous episode (e.g. 7.5 Weeks at Beijing).
Furthermore, to broaden the usefulness of the range, some of the international troops will also be suitable for other conflicts of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Where the uniforms and equipment allow it, we will identify these additional uses in the descriptions of the finished sets.
All figures shown here are mock-ups only. Details, poses and the proposed selection of subjects may change before production.
