Hi there,
I have some pictures of Armourfast sherman conversions.
This is an M4 converted into an early M4A3 and an M4 Firefly converted into a M4A3 Firefly (or IVc Firefly). This was done by cutting the upper hulls of 1 M4 kit, 1 M4 firefly kit and 2 M4A3 (105) kits in half as shown by the two sections in the front of the photo. You then match the front of the M4 with the back of the M4A3 and - voila - some early hull M4A3s. You will need to fill in the dips for the weld seems at the front (the M4A3 used fewer plates for the upper hull) and complete the skirting (as the M4 comes with while the M4A3 comes without). But otherwise a straight forwards conversion. The remaining halves will be used later to make late hull M4 (105)s.
By default the Bristish never recieved the M4A3 under lend lease, however 12 were sent for evaluation and of these, at least one served as a prototype Firefly. So it existed but never saw combat, for wargaming however, if someone submits might have beens, so will I!
Hope you enjoy the pictures,
Regards,
John S.
